Summary

The Field Millwright is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery  and equipment.

Reporting Relationship

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Field Foreman

Qualifications

  • This candidate should have a high school education.
  • This candidate must possess a valid driver license; a valid DZ license is preferred. 
  • This candidate must have own means of transportation.

Experience

  • Candidate must have at least five (5) years previous work-related skill, knowledge and/or  experience.

Skills

  • Candidate must have strong initiative, be self-motivated, and be goal oriented.
  • Candidate must possess solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.
  • Proven experience as a Millwright or in a similar role 
  • Hands-on experience with construction equipment and machinery 
  • Availability to travel regularly to different sites  
  • Strong communication and computational skills 
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented with watchful oversight. 
  • Candidate must possess outstanding organizational skills. 
  • Candidate must be able to multi-task.
  • Candidate must be a contributing team member.

Knowledge

  • Candidate must have knowledge of and understand the industrial manufacturing process. Candidate must be proficient in basic mathematic skills. 

Abilities

  • Candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Candidate must be willing to travel to work locations (out of town work). 
  • Candidate must have the ability to weld in all positions with good penetration and quality. Candidate must be able to read a tape measure, pressure gauge, level and square. Candidate must be able to troubleshoot and repair issues which can occur in field work. Candidate must have the ability and willingness to follow direction, as well as the ability to work  independently. 
  • Candidate must be fluent in English. The abilities to speak, read, and write any other languages  are preferred.

Physical Demands

While undertaking the essential duties  and responsibilities of the position, the candidate must speak and listen, brace or balance, walk,  sit, bend, stoop, or kneel. 
  • The candidate must repeatedly use arms, hands or feet to grip, hold, reach or push. The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • The candidate will be required to wear personal protective equipment on a daily basis, including  but not limited to safety glasses, steel-toe boots, fall protection equipment, hearing protection,  work gloves and respiratory protection.

Environmental Conditions

  •  Working at Heights. 
  • Humidity levels may be elevated during summer months. 
  • Exposure to certain contaminants, at times.
  • Exposure to loud noise levels, at times.

  • Continuously improve quality and strive for “zero” scrap and re-work expenses.

Responsibility

  • Receive information – read prints, shop drawings, specifications.
  • Communicate with Supervisors and peers; maintain respectful relationships.
  • Maintain good relations with customers, vendors, sub-contractors, and other employees.

Essential Duties & Tasks

  • Layout and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are  met. 
  • Lift or move materials and finished products, using mechanical assistance (e.g. cranes, chain block,  lift truck, etc). 
  • Operate tools, such as flame cutters, grinders, and drills to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or  otherwise form and assemble metal components. 
  • Heat-treat, using acetylene torches. 
  • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal. 
  • Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools. 
  • Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, etc. 
  • Mark reference paint onto floors, or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces using measuring  devices, squares, chalk, and/or soapstone. 
  • Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures. 
  • Participate in on-the-job skill training, as needed.
  • Ensure clean and organized work space.
  • Repair broken or defective machine parts, using welding and brazing tools 
  • Align equipment by using specialized tools (e.g. micrometer, plumb bobs) 
  • Review and follow highly technical and complex machinery manuals  
  • Transfer machines to several sites, either to install them or repair them 
  • Disassemble machine parts when transporting or repairing them, and reassemble the parts Attend and participate in shop safety meetings. 
  • Fill out Time Sheets. 
  • Report all hazards. 
  • Follow company policies and procedures. 
  • Project a positive company image.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks assigned by the President.
